Eurovision

Eurovision is an international song competition that includes entrants representing countries throughout Europe and those bordering the Mediterranean Sea. It draws an international viewing audience estimated between 100 and 600 million people. In addition, it has been broadcast via the Internet since 2000, with a growing audience of nearly 74,000 in 2006. A hallmark of the contest is the annual relocation of the broadcast venue to the previous year’s winning country. In anticipation of the broadcast, many countries air preliminary song contests in order to choose their final Eurovision entry. Though the winning songwriters receive no monetary award, a trophy is customarily presented and the nation gets “bragging rights” until the next year’s contest.
