Latin Pop
Latin pop first found success with mainstream American audiences in the burgeoning years of rock and roll, during the late 1950s. Latin pop requires only that a song be sung in Spanish or Portuguese, yet Latin music has long been a part of the global popular-music scene. Often, the mainstream success of a Latin music comes by way of a popular-dance style. Several dance crazes have initiated interest in Latin musical styles that continue to be popular today, such as tango, rumba, merengue, mambo, and salsa.
