There are three types of learning disorders: specific learning disabilities, speech or language impairments, and intellectual disabilities. Specific learning disabilities are the most prevalent of the learning disorders. Speech or language impairments include impairments in speech, language, and hearing, which are essential to learning in school. Speech or language impairments are the second most prevalent learning disorders. Intellectual disability is characterized by significantly below average cognitive functioning, limited functioning in adaptive behavior, and onset before age 18. It is the third most common learning disorder.
