Personal Pronouns (3.7)

Exercise 1 - Do you feel a bit rusty when it comes to personal pronouns? This is a fairly easy quiz to start you off. Replace the noun phrases in brackets with a personal pronoun.

Exercise 2 - Do you need some more practise? Provide a suitable personal pronoun and don't forget to capitalize the ones at the start of the sentence. If you find this too easy, try exercises 3 to 6.

Exercise 3 - Another opportunity to practise personal pronouns. Fill in the gap with a suitable pronoun. Make sure you understand the sentence so that you get the correct gender and case.

Exercise 4 - Let's make this a bit harder… Replace the noun phrases in italics using a personal pronoun. Write the whole sentence and check spelling and punctuation. You will also need to focus on the word order in this exercise.

Example:
Meine Schwester trifft ihren Freund.
Answer: Sie trifft ihn.

Exercise 5 - In this exercise you need to replace the noun phrase in italics by either the preposition and a personal pronoun (mit ihm) or by a prepositional adverb (damit).

Exercise 6 - Decide from context whether you need the prepositional adverb (e.g. damit) or a preposition and personal pronoun (e.g. mit ihr).

Possessives (3.5, 3.9)

Possessive determiners are followed by a noun (mein Fahrrad). Remember, when used as pronouns, possessives have distinct forms in masculine singular and neuter nominative/accusative singular (Das ist meines).

Exercise 1 - In this exercise you need to provide the ending for the possessive determiner. If you feel fairly confident you can skip to exercises 2 to 4.

Exercise 2 - Complete the answers to the questions by providing a suitable form for the possessive pronoun.

Exercise 3 - Like in exercise 2, you have to insert a suitable possessive pronoun. Pay attention to gender and plural/singular. For forms of euer, use the spelling without -e- (eurer, eure, eures)

Exercise 4 - Add a suitable ending to the forms of possessive determiners and pronouns or (k)ein. Write the whole word.

Exercise 5 - How good are you with possessives? Find out with this quiz. You will need to insert the correct forms of the possessives or (k)ein. Write the whole word, not just the ending.
