Welcome!
Welcome to the companion website of Pragmatics: An advanced resource book for students. This website provides a range of materials designed to supplement, build upon and extend the scope of the text.
The website is structured to shadow the main unit themes that are presented in the book, with each section containing suggestions for further reading and additional tasks. In some cases, additional data has been provided for analysis; in others the reader is required to collect and analyse data for themselves, and also to reflect on the data collection process and its validity. There is guidance on how to make use of publicly available corpora, using spoken corpora, but also on how to create the reader’s own corpus, for example using Computer Mediated Communication.
Readers are encouraged to reflect on a number of applications of pragmatics, including the role of pragmatics in the language teaching and learning process.
We hope that you will enjoy using the website.
