Multimedia Story: City Council Follow-up Coverage

Assignment

You are a reporter working the city beat. Review the archived public meetings at the links above, or find your own. Find an issue addressed in one of these meetings that would be relevant (in some form) in your community. Interview one of more city council members in your community about the issue, as well as community members who have a stake in the issue. (Make sure to interview people on both sides of the issue.) Produce one or more of the following reports:

1. A long-form feature story for a local print newspaper or magazine, as well as an abbreviated version of the story for the publication’s website
2. A 250-to-500-word news update for the Web
3. A one-to-three-minute video on the issue
4. An information or interactive graphic
5. Links to resources, related stories, or more information
6. A photo slideshow using Soundslides (soundslides.com) or a similar application
7. A podcast
