1866 - member of Imperial Russian Academy of Arts
1870 – founding member of The Wanderers (Peredvizhniki); begins teaching at Imperial Academy
1871 – begins teaching at MSPSA
1877 - resigns from Wanderers
1881-2 – publishes “Tales of an artist” [Rasskazy khudozhnika] in Khudozhestvennyi Zhurnal (St Petersburg); resigns from MSPSA
