Adam Smith Institute
Founded in 1977 to impart the ideas of the Free Market, this has been very influential on the Conservative Party. It engineers policies to increase Britain’s economic competitiveness, inject choice into public services, and aims to create a freer, more prosperous society. Go to the Research tab and then 'Filter by issue' to Education, to read Reports written about some of the issues surrounding state schools and choice, among others. -
Centre for Social Justice
The Centre for Social Justice is an independent think tank established by Rt Hon Iain Duncan Smith MP in 2004 to seek effective solutions to issues of poverty, and is very influential inside Cameron’s Conservative party. -
Centre for Policy Studies
An independent think tank that was founded by prominent Conservative politicians in the 1970s: it develops and promotes policies to limit the role of the state, to encourage enterprise and to enable the institutions of society – such as families and voluntary organizations - to flourish. Click on the “Policy Areas” link on the left-hand menu to find up-to-date commentary on a range of issues. -
Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG)
CPAG is a leading charity campaigning for the abolition of child poverty in the UK and for a better deal for low-income families and children. Click on the “Information and Resources” link for a range of briefings, reports and articles on child poverty issues. -
Compass
Compass is an action based political pressure group which aims to give direction to the Democratic Left in the UK, through influencing Labour Party policies. Type the word “education” into the search box to find articles and commentaries. -
Demos
A London-based think tank that deals with welfare issues, influenced New Labour in its early days. Look under the “Publications” tab to find pamphlets, reports, collections and papers to do with education issues. -
The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR )
The Institute for Public Policy Research is an important think tank that has influenced Labour, but is unafraid of being critical of government policies.
