The book is developed for students in strategic communication or public relations and uses cases from these communication disciplines with outcomes varying from expected to unsuccessful. Each case is based on real events and is designed to encourage discussion, debate, and exploration of the options available to today's strategic public relations manager. They challenge students to think analytically, strategically, and practically.
Patricia Swann, former dean of the School of Business and Justice Studies, is a professor of public relations and management at Utica College, USA. She is the executive director of the Raymond Simon Institute for Public Relations and Journalism and the past head for the Public Relations Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. She has 20 years of experience in the public relations and journalism industries and has garnered numerous awards for her work.

PowerPoint Lecture Slides
Each case study has PowerPoint lecture slides that provide the basic overview of the case elements including public relations concepts, terminology, and theories. The PowerPoints can be easily adjusted to fit your instructional needs.
Instructor Guides
The instructor guides provide learning objectives and the public relations theories and concepts as they relate to each case. Concepts include ethics, issues and conflict management, media relations, communication strategies and tactics, and program measurement and evaluation. Guides are presented both for the cases and for the case supplements.
Answer Keys for Quizzes
A short readiness quiz is provided in the student portion of the site to ensure that students come to class prepared to discuss the case. The answers are taken directly from the text.
Answer Keys for End-of-Chapter Activities
The Dig Deeper activity, at the end of each case, is designed to provide students with short research assignments to further their understanding of the case concepts or introduce them to another aspect of the case. A sample response (answer) is provided for the instructor.
