Welcome!
This is the companion website for Critical Reading and Writing in the Digital Age, 2nd Edition. On this website, you’ll find the tools you need to master the concepts and terminology as well as several resources for critical reading and writing in the digital age.
Resources
The resources menu is organised chapter by chapter (with the introduction as chapter 0). The resources include:
Each chapter has a set of activities for you to follow up your understanding of concepts and analysis. The activities are accompanied by comments for reference. You can refer to the comments for a better understanding and discussion at any given time.
Some chapters include a project to help students practice applying the concepts to the production of texts.
Activities which are marked by an asterisk are particularly useful for discussion in class, in which case multiple copies or PowerPoints of the text could be produced.
You can check understanding of the various concepts in each chapter with the multiple-choice quizzes provided here. The quizzes will be useful for you to consolidate your understanding of the entire chapter.
The further readings list is a useful resource, should you find any topic interesting enough to explore in detail. Brief comments introduce each item on the list, which can be further researched on academic search engines.
This section also consists of links related to computer-mediated participation for purposes of contesting discourses of power and authority. The links include the use of social media platforms, blogs/wikis and different forms of popular culture in the digital age to emphasise different forms of public contestation in global contexts.
Finally, the supplementary material menu for some chapters will show you further examples and sample analyses from the first edition and extra data for which there was not enough space in the hard copy book.
Through this menu you can access a comprehensive glossary of the important linguistic and technical terms used in the book.
