Collaboration on Global Englishes
Both authors come from a background of English language education. Over the years, they developed an increasing interest in the areas of:
- the growth of English language users worldwide
- the role of and use of the language in their various teaching contexts
- their students’ needs as future users of the language
- the relevance of traditional English language teaching approaches and materials
- their own positions as native English-speaking teachers.
They also subsequently became involved in the incorporation of the Global Englishes perspective into an English for Specific Purposes and English for Academic Purposes curriculum within a business university programme, where they both worked as curriculum coordinators.
As a result, the authors collaborated on a number of work and research projects over this time, which have been published in ELT Journal and Journal of English as a Lingua Franca, and have been presented at a number of international applied linguistics conferences.
