Welcome

Welcome to the companion website for Construction Detailing for Landscape and Garden Design: Surfaces, Steps & Margins!

The files available through this site are best used in conjunction with the book. Additional information, concerning site detailing and the development of appropriate construction solutions is given in the text.

The downloads offered on this site are available in two formats:

  1. SketchUp
  2. Layout (SketchUp Pro)

The SketchUp and Layout files are saved as version 2014, to allow those who have yet to upgrade access. The files will work equally in SketchUp Make (free) and SketchUp Pro.

The files follow the same numbering convention used in the book to aid identification of the files required for download. Some files contain a single assembly detail, whereas others will have multiple models. The SketchUp files use both groups and layers to control visibility of details. Scenes have also been used to establish various viewpoints, clicking between these will activate the models present in the file.

It is assumed that the designer has a knowledge of SketchUp and that they know how to modify the files provided. The files have been created in such a way that individual elements (e.g. bricks) can be reconfigured or deleted as required.

Whilst the Layout files were created from the SketchUp file of the same name, due to the process of renaming and transferring files between folders for publication and upload purposes, it is possible that the link between the two is lost. In this case it will not be possible to modify the SketchUp file and expect the Layout illustration to reflect those changes. If a Layout file is required, it is recommended that a new one is created on your own hard drive from the SketchUp file.

The SketchUp models have been created in good faith and as accurately as commercially available information has permitted. The construction details are not intended as definitive details and the designer should adapt them to suit the conditions and demands of the site to which they will be applied. The author and publisher are not liable of any advice or detail given to any project that the author has not designed. The designer should satisfy themselves that what they have designed is suitable for the prevailing conditions; seeking advice and clarification from experts, professionals material manufacturers and suppliers as appropriate.
