Council of Public Relations FirmsThe Council of Public Relations Firms represents the business of public relations in the United States, and includes more than 100 public relations firms. The Council’s members agree to abide by its Code of Ethics and Statements of Principles. Its overriding principles are that openness and transparency are not only in the public interest, but also necessary tools for meeting clients’ objectives. Its website is http://prfirms.org/.
Ethics Resource CenterThe Ethics Resource Center in Washington, D.C., is the oldest not-for-profit association in the United States devoted to organizational ethics. The ERC conducts research, including an extensive National Business Ethics Survey, and publishes a free monthly electronic newsletter, Ethics Today Online (http://www.ethics.org/today/et_subscribe.html).
The Center publishes a number of guides to ethical practice, including Creating a Workable Company Code of Ethics: A Practical Guide to Identifying and Developing Organizational Standards. The Center also sponsors character development and ethics courses for educational institutions and for corporate ethics officers.
