Statistics
for Business
Derek Waller

Welcome!

In support of my textbook, “Statistics for Business”, and also as an aid to class teaching, the following five sections are available on the website: Excel files of chapter “Application Exercises”; Excel files of case-exercises; Worked-out-solutions of case-exercises; Slides for each chapter; Test Bank. They are explained in paragraphs 1 though 5.

  1. Excel files of chapter “Application Exercises”
  2. These data files allow the reader to work through the Application Case-exercises in the chapters using Microsoft Excel without the tedious effort of entering data. Where there is an extensive data file everything is given. However when there is no data file, such as the case of binomial and Normal distribution related situations, the given file just indicates information that has to be extracted from the case. This is to encourage a reader to study the case-exercise.

  3. Excel files of case-exercises
  4. As for Section 1, these data files allow the reader to work through the Case-Exercises in the second part of this book using Microsoft Excel without the tedious effort of entering data. Where there is an extensive data file everything is given. However when there is really no data file, such as the case of binomial and Normal distribution related situations, the given file just indicates the information that has to be extracted. This is to encourage a reader to carefully study the case-exercise.

  5. Detailed worked-out-solutions of case-exercises
  6. (These are the word by word explanation of the answers given to the case-exercises in the second part of the textbook.)

Note case-exercises for Chapter 2, Presenting and organizing data”, are predominantly the development of graphs and charts so there are no real solutions but just the application of the graphical capabilities in Microsoft Excel.

If calculations are performed with a calculator they may be slightly different than those determined with Excel since Excel keeps a larger number of decimal places in its memory.

  7. Slides for each chapter
  8. (These are a summary of each chapter suitable for class presentation and discussion)

  9. Test Bank
  10. This contains ten questions each that can be used as a test in understanding of the chapter subjects.
