CW10.3 – Rules of Courtly Love

The rules of courtly love were catalogued by Andreus Capellanus in Book II of his, The Art of Courtly Love (ca. 1174-1186). Little is known about Capellanus, but he was likely French, and he wrote this “handbook” on love, for his patron, Marie de Champagne, who was the daughter of King Louis VII of France and Eleanor of Aquitaine.
