Teacher Resources

Thank you for checking out our website and the range of supplementary material we have created for you and your students. The activities and ideas we have provided here have all been used in our own sociolinguistics classes to great effect, and we hope they will be of benefit to you and your students also. However, since we are always looking for ways to better help our students, we encourage sociolinguistic educators everywhere to get involved by submitting your teaching ideas and feedback.

If you have an activity or lessons plan you would like to share with us, or you would just like provide feedback, you can email us at: intro.sociolx@gmail.com

Of course, if we decide to upload your lesson plan or activity to our resources page, you will be credited for you submission (e.g., This activity was devised by Mary Smith, a lecturer at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia.)

Once again, we hope you enjoy the textbook and the supplementary lessons and materials we have developed. Happy learning!

Guide to the Online Companion

Chapter by Chapter

We have developed a range of activities and ideas for both students and educators. These activities and ideas are divided by chapters and are easily found by clicking here. More of these will be added over time, feel free to contact us if you have an idea for an activity that you’d like to share!

For educators, aside from exploring the ideas we have put together for you, it might be valuable to explore what we have created for learners (click here). In short, we have provided learners with a range of mini exams which can be used to either assess what a student knows prior to exploring the chapter, or what a student has learnt from the chapter after exploring it. Either way, these mini tests help uncover areas that may require more exploration with your students. Additionally, students are directed towards a range of podcasts and videos to engage with if they wish to know more.
