Welcome to the companion website for Studying English Literature and Language. This is put together and maintained by Rob Pope and Andrea Macrae so as to enrich and extend the substance of the book.  A correspondingly comprehensive and wide-ranging array of materials is supplied, including

In the spirit of the book, the overall aim continues to be to ‘seriously enjoy studying English’ – with equal emphasis on all four terms.

The website follows the book’s overall structure, part by part and section by section, so it should be easy to find what you need. @ Part One corresponds to Part One: @ 3.9 corresponds to 3.9, and so forth. There is also cross-referencing for ease of movement from one area to another. Each of the six Parts is prefaced by its own brief introduction and detailed list of contents. This website is an evolving resource. It has to be given the constantly changing nature of ‘English’ across Language, Literature, Culture, Communication and Media. This is also a collaborative resource and seeks to make a contribution in its own right. It is co-authored by writers with widely various as well as different experience and expertise. We also aim to be alert and responsive to voices and versions of English other than our own. Indeed, as the book and website constantly seek to argue as well as demonstrate,  attest, there is no such thing as ‘one English’ for all times and persons and places – nor  a single subject that could lay claim to cover the. But there are many and various, intricately interconnected subjects and objects of that name – ‘Englishes’ for short. We hope that this companion website, along with the book, will help you experience the excitement and challenge that we continue to feel in contributing to such projects and communities. In your own terms but not on your own.

The authors and publishers will therefore be pleased to receive comments on the present website and book. We shall strive to take them into account when updating the website (which happens at six-month intervals) and in any future editions.
