Glossary

Permanent vegetative state - A long term condition where the patient is in a coma like state with no periods of wakefulness or has no cognitive function.

Artificial ventilation - Where the patient is dependent upon artificial ventilation to help them breathe.

Nutrition and hydration - Where the patient receives any form of nutrition of food and fluid via a tube.
