Riverdance
For the 1994 Eurovision song contest, Riverdance was not a competing group but a troupe of dancers that performed during the interval between the song performances and the presentation of the voting results. The Riverdance troupe capitalized on the acclaim they received after the Eurovision broadcast and, a year later, presented a full- length musical production in Dublin, Ireland. They performed to sold-out crowds for five weeks straight, and the show had successful runs in other cities throughout Europe and in the United States. Due to the popularity of the onstage production, the Irish step- dancing featured throughout has since become known colloquially as “Riverdancing” in the United States and elsewhere.
