Exercise 1.13 Intransitive verbs and adverbials (section 1.9)
Underline the adverbials in the sentences. Some sentences may have more than one adverbial.
Sometimes people do the stupidest things.
In Canada, a man drove for two hours in the wrong direction on a motorway.
When police caught up with him, he calmly told them he was ninety-seven.
Incredibly, his licence had expired in 1965.
Over the years, he had simply forgotten to renew it.
According to police, he was actually a good driver.
However, his eyesight was poor and he was often unable to read the road signs.
As a result, he took a wrong turn somewhere and just kept going.
After his arrest, he phoned his ninety-four-year-old wife from the police station.
She arrived ten minutes later, on a Harley Davidson motorbike.
