Chapter 20: Lung ultrasound in emergency cardiac care

Lung ultrasound (LUS) can provide useful information in emergency cardiac care, especially for the differential diagnosis of life-threatening conditions, such as acute respiratory and circulatory failure.
Acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema can be easily recognized by LUS through the detection of multiple diffuse bilateral B-lines.
An integrated cardiopulmonary ultrasound assessment, combining LUS with focus cardiac ultrasound (FoCUS) examination, can empower the diagnostics, management, and risk stratification in cardiac emergencies.
