Integrative approach

the use of a range of different forms of treatment by therapists.

Interpretive bias

negative biased or distorted interpretations of ambiguous stimuli and/or situations.

actions designed to reduce patients’ level of anxiety and avoid catastrophes in social situations.

Exposure therapy

a form of treatment in which patients are repeatedly exposed to stimuli or situations they fear greatly.

a very serious disorder characterised by hallucinations, delusions, lack of emotion, and severely impaired social functioning.

positive responses to an inactive substance based on the client’s beliefs that the substance will be effective.

assessment of therapeutic success based on well-controlled investigation of well-defined clinical problems.

Effectiveness studies

assessment of therapeutic success based on typical clinical practice.

Therapeutic alliance

a warm relationship between therapist and client with mutual agreement on how to achieve therapeutic goals.
